Pair-up puzzles, a retro adventure, or an AI-generated RPG? This weekend, Steam gives you the choice with four new free games to discover. Everyone has their own uniqueness, and it’s better to be well informed before getting started.
Since January 12, Ablossomreddish, Bubba Yuga, Lost Trust – Episode 1 and Nocturnal Quest have joined the free games section on Steam. Released discreetly but already commented on in independent gamer communities, these titles each promise you a radically different experience, with a few technical or linguistic surprises to anticipate.
Bubba Yuga: a cooperative game with heartstrings
Developed by the Gaga team, Bubba Yuga is played exclusively by two players. And that’s not an option. “The game does not support keyboard and mouse and is played by two players.” A controller and a partner are therefore essential. The principle? Solve puzzles as a duo, attached to each other, in an atmosphere reminiscent of some recent independent successes.
If Split Fiction has struck you or Chained Together speaks to you, you will be on familiar ground. “Bubba Yuga offers solving many puzzles while attached to each other with a partner.”
Ablossomreddish: a quick game… but reserved for Portuguese speakers
Released on January 12, Ablossomreddish stands out for its frenetic platform style and strange universe. But be careful, this game by Renato Souza Truiz and Ana Clara Simão is not accessible to everyone. “Ablossomreddish is entirely in Brazilian Portuguese; if you don’t read the language, you may have difficulty following the game.” This does not prevent it from attracting the attention of speedrunning enthusiasts, as its rhythm lends itself to it.
Lost Trust – Episode 1: immersed in a Fincher-like atmosphere
Launched by Kreachura production, this linear adventure game focuses everything on atmosphere. “Lost Trust – Episode 1 features the retro graphical style of the original PlayStation games.” This first part promises a tense narrative, where doubt is permanent and appearances are often deceptive. The assumed inspiration of David Fincher is perceptible, particularly in the lighting and the staging of the sequences. A perfect game for those looking for a little narrative tension without too many complex mechanics.
Nocturnal Quest: semi-idle AI-assisted RPG
Also released on January 15, Nocturnal Quest is an early access RPG that offers a more passive approach to gameplay. Semi-idle, this title developed by Lunarade OÜ offers slow-paced team fights. What catches the eye here is its use of artificial intelligence. “Nocturnal Quest incorporates AI-generated content for some visual and audio elements; it’s up to you to draw your own conclusions.” This choice may intrigue or put off, depending on your expectations. But it illustrates well the variety of experiences offered this week on Steam.
