Carto, Spirit of the North… two games popular with PS Plus subscribers had disappeared without a trace. While some thought it was a temporary bug, Sony has just confirmed their withdrawal in a silent update, casting doubt on the management of its catalog.
Subscribers to PS Plus Extra and Premium were surprised to see several titles evaporate from the “Last Chance to Play” section without an official explanation. A confusing situation, especially since access remains possible for some players, while others can no longer even find the games on the store. So, temporary removal or permanent departure?
Sony quietly withdraws two PS Plus games without warning
Carto and Spirit of the North were spotted as missing by several subscribers, who immediately contacted PlayStation Support. Faced with the increase in comments, Sony ended up reacting, without making much noise. “Sony has updated the list of games leaving PS Plus in February following fan feedback regarding missing titles.”
This gesture, however, did not allay concerns: the company simply removed the two games from the “Last chance to play” section, without reinstating them in the catalog, as sometimes happens during technical changes.
Why did these games disappear?
Carto and Spirit of the North were not initially removed from the catalog voluntarily. This could be a display issue related to the PlayStation Store database. “As we have previously stated, the removal of these games was not intentional, as they remain available to players who downloaded them. Only new players are encouraged to purchase them.”
This dysfunction is not new. Sony has already made internal updates to the store in the past affecting the visibility of certain games. “Sometimes Sony updates a game’s listing on the PlayStation Store, resulting in its temporary removal from PS Plus.”
What about current subscribers?
For those who had already downloaded these games before their removal, access still seems guaranteed, at least until the announced deadline. However, there is no guarantee of their availability after February. “Those who still have access may lose that access after February 2026, when Sony initially planned to remove them from the service.” In short: if you still have these titles in your library, it is better to launch or save them quickly, because permanent loss is possible.
Vague management that questions subscribers
This is not the first time that Sony has been singled out for its communication deemed opaque around game withdrawals. The lack of an official message or clear timetable causes frustration and uncertainty. Especially since we don’t know if other games are or will be affected in the coming months.
The case of Spirit of the North is revealing: already withdrawn without warning the previous year, the title had never re-entered the catalog, despite the implicit promise of a return. This type of incident pushes some subscribers to question the reliability of the service, particularly when it comes to planning their sessions or purchases.
