Single player campaign doesn’t let you pause and requires a permanent connection

Another game that will age badly

When we think of a single-player campaign, the idea of a constant connection doesn’t immediately come to mind. However, this is what Call of Duty Black Ops 7 proposes, since you will be forced to stay connected online throughout your adventure, even when playing solo. This campaign was certainly designed to be experienced in cooperation in order to better benefit from it, but the presence of a compulsory connection will be likely to disappoint some.

Especially since it comes with other problems. According to the first feedback (notably reported by Eurogamer), no checkpoint system is present in the levelsthus asking you to finish the missions in one go if you do not want to lose your progress in each of them (so it is better to have a solid connection).

Add to that the lack of pause as well as the lack of AI-controlled companionsgiven that this campaign is geared towards multiplayer play. Which is starting to do a lot for those who wanted to enjoy this campaign in their area, if possible without the need for a connection. Now think about what this means when the game’s servers are no longer supported in several years…

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is available today on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series.
