The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced the films that will be considered for nomination in the Best Animated Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.
Seven anime films from Japan
Next year, seven animated films from Japan will have the chance to compete for the prestigious Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film – if they even make it into the final selection of nominees.
The following works must first assert themselves against their competitors from all over the world before they can receive one of the five coveted places in the “Best Animated Feature Film” category:
With »The Legend of Hei 2« a Chinese Donghua is also entering the race, and »Lost in Starlight« brings South Korea into the field. Also the Netflix success »KPop Demon Hunters« could be involved in the final selection.
Tough competition
To be nominated for the 98th Academy Awards, a film must play in a theater in one of the six largest U.S. cities for at least one week no later than December 31, 2025. Around 5,500 Academy members then select the titles that they believe should receive a nomination.
All films also have the opportunity to qualify for other categories, including Best Picture. In addition to the works already mentioned, the following 25 films will also be included in the selection process:
