The end of 2025 will welcome an unexpected guest into the Resident Evil universe: a new free mobile game baptized Resident Evil Survival Unit. Designed for iOS and Android, this title resolutely moves away from the traditional codes of the series to offer a formula strategicdesigned exclusively for touch screens.
The promise? Offering an accessible and intense experience, without compromising on the dark and tense atmosphere that the franchise is known for. Better yet, Capcom intends to make this spin-off a bridge between long-time fans and a new, much broader generation of mobile gamers.
International development and famous figures at the helm
This surprising project does not come out of nowhere. It is the result of an ambitious collaboration between three major players in the industry: Capcomof course, but also Aniplex Inc. (Sony subsidiary specializing in animation and digital content) and the Korean studio JOYCITY Corporationknown for its real-time strategy games.
The development was entrusted to Shinji Hashimotoessential name in Japanese gaming, ex-producer of Final Fantasy And Kingdom Hearts. Its presence guarantees a solid narrative approach, even in a mobile format. The gameplay promises a clever mix between resource management, exploration And tactical defenseall in a city devastated by a mysterious infection.
The inspiration is assumed: the artistic direction openly evokes the classics of the PS1 era, and the fixed camera recalls the very first episodes. Early fans will find familiar faces like Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine Or Ada Wongcome to lend a hand to a whole new squad of survivors.
Pre-registrations launched and gradual global release
The game will be completely freewith an economic system still being refined. No gacha or random draws according to Aniplex, which claims to want to preserve a fair experience. The most likely hypothesis would be a model freemium based on build speedupslike many mobile titles of the same genre.
Calendar-wise, the release of Resident Evil Survival Unit is planned for November 18, 2025 at 3 a.m. in Franceon iOS and Android. The launch will take place gradually, with priority given to the West, followed by Asia (South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam) in early 2026.
THE pre-registrations are open since the beginning of November on the App Store and the Google Play Store. It is therefore possible to register now to be notified as soon as the game goes live, and potentially receive exclusive bonuses at launch.
A year 2026 which promises to be explosive for Resident Evil
Capcom does not hide its ambitions: this mobile game will only be a prelude to the release of Resident Evil 9 Requiem, scheduled for February 27, 2026 on consoles and PC. Survival Unit will thus serve as a storyline and thematic appetizer, with a parallel universe that could enrich that of the next canonical opus.
The objective is clear: multiply the points of contact with the license and capitalize on a now global fan base, while opening up to new formats. Far from a simple derivative product, this mobile title intends to make an impression by being part of a more global loyalty strategy.
