Sony hasn’t made anything official yet, but things seem to be speeding up behind the scenes. According to knowledgeable YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead, the production of the PlayStation 6 could start as early as mid-2027. A credible rumor, supported by an internal document that he claims to have consulted, and which places Sony’s next console at the heart of all speculation.
While the PS5 Pro is expected in 2025, the PS6 has already been in the works for two years. The information rekindles discussions around the future technical capabilities of the machine, Sony’s schedule, and its strategy against Microsoft and Nintendo.
A precise but unconfirmed timetable
In a recently published video, Moore’s Law Is Dead claims to have had access to confidential information regarding Sony’s future console. “I literally have a document saying when they’re making them, and it’s mid to early 2027, and that’s exactly when they’re making the PS6.”
This calendar coincides with the statements of another well-known leaker, KeplerL2, who already mentioned a launch in 2027. However, no official confirmation has been provided by Sony to date, and a shift towards 2028 remains possible.
The Moore’s Law Is Dead video also evokes an exchange with Mark Cerny, emblematic architect of the PS4 and PS5, around the Amethyst Projecta program co-developed with AMD aimed at integrating advanced technologies into the future PlayStation.
What new features can we expect from the PS6?
Among the innovations cited is a technology called Universal Compression, which is supposed to free up GPU bandwidth to significantly improve performance. The PS6’s ray tracing would reach levels close to those of the RTX 5090an ultra high-end graphics card still reserved for PC gaming.
Another notable revelation: a portable console associated with the PS6 would also be in development. It would position itself as more powerful than the Xbox Ally and the Nintendo Switch 2and would be thought of as a companion to the future home console.
If this information is confirmed, the PS6 could mark a significant technological breakthrough while expanding the PlayStation ecosystem both in living rooms and on the move. For the moment, Sony remains silent, but the signals are increasing, suggesting that a major turning point is approaching.
