PS6: another console title leaked online, and it’s heavy

While the end of the PlayStation 5 slowly looming on the horizon, attention is turning more and more to its successor: the PS6still not officially confirmed, but already at the heart of all speculation. And among the major questions: what will be the first games available on this new generation console? A recent well-informed leak may provide the beginnings of an answer: Destiny 3 would be under development at Bungie.

Destiny 3: the first signs of a return

It is a publication of a well-known leaker in the Destiny communityColony Deaks, which ignited the powder. According to him, Bungie is currently working on the third opus of the saga, in what he describes as a extremely early development phase. The information would have leaked on social networks in recent days, before being confirmed by this specialist in confidential data, who has distinguished himself in the past by revealing reliable elements on Marathon and Destiny 2.

The idea of a Destiny 3 is nothing new. Since the conclusion of the “Light and Darkness” arc in 2024, players have been expecting a new era for the franchise. But Bungie had chosen another path, further expanding Destiny 2 with a new campaign. A choice which, despite its ambitions, left many fans disappointed. This complex transition, combined with recent criticism over the content and pace of updates, has eroded confidence in the game’s longevity.

Towards a release on PS6?

Even if Bungie remains officially silent, the timing of this leak raises questions. If the studio is indeed exploring a sequel, the fact that it is still in its embryonic stage suggests a distant exitprobably not before 2027 or 2028. This schedule would perfectly match the expected arrival of the PlayStation 6.

For Sony, offering Destiny 3 as a temporary exclusive or launch showcase could represent a major strategic blowlike what Destiny the first of its name represented during the launch of the PS4. Especially since the acquisition of Bungie by Sonyannounced in 2022, offers the Japanese giant unprecedented room for maneuver over the future of the license.

Expectations are immense (and doubts too)

The reactions of the players were not long in coming. If the enthusiasm to see the franchise start again from scratch dominates, many are cautious. Some hope for real overhaul of the universeand not a simple continuity of Destiny 2 disguised as a sequel. Others fear that Bungie will repeat the same mistakes, adding an extra layer to a gaming model already saturated with microtransactions, seasons and paid expansions.

For now, the only certainty is that the universe of Destiny remains alive and changing. Bungie seems to want to turn the page gently, without completely abandoning its players. The launch of Marathon, their other flagship project, could also free up resources to accelerate the development of this new opus.
