PlayStation Store promotions sometimes hold real surprises. This week, a title considered one of the best platform games in history is being offered at an extremely low price for PlayStation gamers.
Originally released in 2010, this cult indie game can be purchased for just €1 on PS5 and PS4. A rare opportunity to discover or rediscover a significant experience of modern video games.
Limbo is available for €1 on PS5 and PS4
The promotion concerns Limbo, the first game from Danish studio Playdead. The title is currently 90% off on the PlayStation Store. Usually sold for much more, the game can be purchased for just €1 until March 12. This offer concerns the PlayStation 4 version of the game, which remains perfectly playable on PlayStation 5 thanks to backwards compatibility.
When it was released in 2010, Limbo quickly made an impression on players and critics. Its dark atmosphere, its minimalist universe and its ingenious puzzles have contributed to its immense success. The game earned a 90 rating on Metacritic, making it one of the highest-rated indie games of its time.
Inside, the even better-rated successor
The promotion isn’t just about Limbo. Its spiritual successor, Inside, also benefits from a significant reduction. Released six years later, this game takes the basics of the first while further developing its universe and gameplay mechanics. Inside is currently sold for €2.49 on the PlayStation Store thanks to a 90% discount.
Critics received the title even more warmly than its predecessor. On Metacritic, Inside has a score of 93, which places it among the best-reviewed games of its generation. Like Limbo, it is a puzzle platform game in which the player must solve environmental puzzles to progress.
Two cult games but relatively short
Even though these two titles are very popular, they do not offer a very long lifespan. Each game is completed in approximately four hours. Together, they offer almost eight hours of adventure. This relatively short duration also explains their low price during this promotion. Both games rely above all on their unique atmosphere and their particular setting. Players who enjoy narrative experiences and visual puzzles will find this a memorable adventure.
A discreet studio for almost ten years
Playdead, the studio behind these two games, has remained relatively quiet since the release of Inside. The Danish developer hasn’t released any new games since 2016. A new project is well in development, but very little information has been revealed. This prolonged silence, however, did not prevent Limbo and Inside from remaining benchmarks in independent gaming. Even today, these two titles are regularly cited among the best platform and puzzle games ever made.
