PS Plus: The highly anticipated December game is available now

Rockstar Games has never before offered a native PS5 version for its 2010 hit. It is now done: Red Dead Redemption joins the PS Plus Extra catalog on December 2, starting with Asia before a global deployment.

For players who already own the PS4 version, a free upgrade to PS5 version is available. And this is where things get complicated.

The wrong method can make you lose the game

Sony hasn’t fixed a known bug since revamping its PS Plus system. If you try to download Red Dead Redemption from the PS Plus tab of the PlayStation Store, you risk obtaining a limited license or even losing all rights to the game.

The correct method: go directly to the page of the PS4 game you already own, and activate the PS5 upgrade from there. This ensures that you keep the full version, regardless of your PS Plus subscription.

This technical detail is not trivial. Many users have already seen their games “disappear” after a subscription expires, even for titles purchased outside of the service.

A rich month of December for PS Plus subscribers

Besides Red Dead Redemptionother titles are joining the program this month. Skate Storyanticipated for its unique visual atmosphere and minimalist narration, will be available from December 8.

On the Premium catalog side, a welcome return: Soul Calibur IIIa PlayStation 2 classic, includes the retro selection. This is just a taste, as Sony promises more additions on December 16.

The titles that will leave the service have not yet been announced, but the mass withdrawals in November left a bitter taste. It is therefore advisable to anticipate your downloads.

A PlayStation strategy that remains unclear

Since the redesign of PS Plus, many subscribers have pointed to confusing license management. Free upgrades, free games, and cloud or local versions are not always clearly distinguished in the interface.

The case of Red Dead Redemption once again highlights the limits of the system. At a time when Microsoft is attracting people with its more transparent Game Pass, Sony would benefit from clarifying its access policy, otherwise it would frustrate its most loyal subscribers.
