PS Plus: free games for January 2026 confirmed with Resident Evil Village and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Sony is starting 2026 in style with a new wave of games added to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog. From the week of January 15, nine titles will be available free of charge to subscribers, mixing recent blockbusters, independent gems and nostalgic throwbacks. An anticipated update that should delight both action enthusiasts and fans of calmer experiences.

Among the games highlighted, we find in particular Resident Evil Village And Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealthtwo strong titles whose sequels are planned for February. The perfect opportunity to catch up, or dive into the universe before the new releases.

On the heavy side PS Plus Extra

This month, subscribers to the Extra offer will be able to download eight games divided between the PS4 and PS5 free of charge. Here are the confirmed titles:

  • Resident Evil Village (PS4/PS5)
  • Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (PS4/PS5)
  • Expeditions: A MudRunner Game (PS4/PS5)
  • A Little To The Left (PS4/PS5)
  • The Exit 8 (PS4/PS5)
  • Darkest Dungeon II (PS4/PS5)
  • Art of rally (PS4/PS5)
  • A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead (PS5)

This selection offers a clever mix between intense experiences, such as survival horror from Capcom, and more relaxing titles, such as A Little To The Leftbased on organization and logic. The narrative atmosphere of A Quiet Placefor its part, promises a discreet and distressing immersion, reserved for PS5 owners.

Just one retro game for Premium subscribers

PlayStation Plus Premium membership owners will have to make do with just one retro addition this month: Ridge Racerthe PS1 version of the legendary 1993 racing game. A modest arrival, which contrasts with the previous January waves that were often more generous for the classic catalog.

This choice is explained, according to Sony, by the complexity of the rights linked to many retro games. The licenses for certain old titles are held by publishers that have now disappeared, or direct competitors of PlayStation, which complicates their integration into the service.

A strategy oriented towards new developments

Sony’s strategy for the start of the year seems clear: highlight games linked to imminent releases. With Resident Evil Requiem and Yakuza Kiwami 3 expected from February, the two January headliners on PS Plus act as marketing springboards.

This choice benefits both the studios and the players, who can thus discover or revisit these titles at no additional cost. A formula which also allows PlayStation Plus to maintain its attractiveness in the face of growing competition from other subscription services, in particular Xbox Game Pass.

A balanced offer to start the year off right

By focusing on a varied selection, Sony is offering this month an update capable of reaching a wide audience. From horror to exploration, retro to indie, there’s likely something for every type of gamer. If Premium subscribers may regret the meager retro addition, the Extra offer more than compensates with the richness of its selection.
