The year 2026 has started off with a bang for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Between Need for Speed Unbound, Core Keeper and Resident Evil Village in the Extra offer, free games have already set a high standard. But it is especially February which attracts the attention of subscribers, this month being traditionally well stocked. If past trends are to be believed, Sony could strike again with its next Essential selection.
The previous months of February bode well
In February 2025, players were treated to Payday 3, High on Life and Pac-Man World Re-Pac. In 2024: Foamstars, Rollerdrome and Steelrising. And even before: Destiny 2: Beyond Light, OlliOlli World or Control: Ultimate Edition.
A solid sequence which shows to what extent February is often a strategic month for the PS Plus catalog, possibly to compensate for a slow period on the release side.
What games to expect for February 2026?
No official announcement has yet been made, but according to predictions from the ScreenRant editorial team, we could expect a big AAA surprise, a notable independent title (Ball X Pit?), and a more unexpected surprise. Some were hoping for Resident Evil Village, but the latter is already planned for January in the Extra offer. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth still seems a little early, but optimism is in order.
Sony gradually abandons PS4 titles on PS Plus
Another trend to note: Sony is starting to exclude PS4 games from its Essential offer. This means that the next free titles will mainly target the PS5, gradually limiting cross-gen options.
A development that pushes subscribers to migrate to the new generation, and to hope for more recent titles in their monthly selections.
