This is a highly anticipated moment for fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. A few weeks before its release in Japan, the Mega Dream ex expansion is fully revealed with a major surprise: 57 rare secret cards integrated into a set of 193 cards, bringing the total to 250. Enough to panic collectors, especially since this edition will be the most massive since Shiny Treasure ex in 2023.
Renowned for its annual prestige version, the Japanese edition of the Pokémon TCG offers a selection of visually spectacular cards at the end of each year, often translated into English a few months later. The international version, called Ascended Heroesis already eagerly awaited around the world.
Explosive and new content in the Pokémon TCG
Among the secret cards already revealed, some promise to become essential: a Mewtwo ex of Team RocketA Steven’s Ex MetagrossA Mega-Ectoplasm exor even a Mega-Dracolossus exall in version SAR (Special Art Rare), one of the most sought after rarity levels.
The list also includes Pokémon from recent generations, iconic items like theUltraballand well-known trainers like N, Anthea & Concordiaor even Iris. This extension is not only talked about by its content. In Japan, demand already exceeds supply, a recurring problem for several years in the Pokémon TCG universe. Stocks are sometimes so limited that some Japanese stores organize lotteries to distribute the packs.
In 2023, the Shiny Treasure ex expansion had experienced similar enthusiasm, but Mega Dream ex already seems set to break all records. Unlike Shiny Treasure, which mainly had “baby shiny” cards, Mega Dream ex emphasizes full page illustrations spectacular in SAR And MYmuch more coveted by collectors. “Hopefully the English version of the set will be easier to find than some of this year’s expansions.”
