PlayStation cleans up: more than 1,190 games removed from the Store without warning



Sony has carried out a massive deletion on the PlayStation Store, removing 1,194 games from its digital shelves without notice. All of these titles came from a single publisher: ThiGamesDE, known for its ultra-simplistic games, often designed to be completed in a few minutes and allow you to easily earn Platinum trophies. This decision raises many questions, both about Sony’s quality policy and the future of so-called “shovelware” content.

In a single move, ThiGamesDE, the fourth largest publisher of the PlayStation Store in number of games published, sees its entire catalog disappear. Players attempting to access their pages are faced with an error message. Among the games concerned, we find in particular the dozens of variations of the Quiz Thiz or The Jumping Burger series.

With this withdrawal, Sony is going beyond simple moderation: it is a real fundamental cleaning which seems to have begun. The German publisher thus finds itself ousted from the platform, leaving its games inaccessible for purchase. It remains to be seen whether other publishers of similar games will suffer the same fate.

Popular games… for the wrong reasons

If these titles were not acclaimed for their gameplay or their artistic direction, they had found their audience: trophy hunters. Thanks to repetitive mechanics and ultra-short lifespans, ThiGamesDE games made it possible to artificially inflate a collection of Platinum trophies.
