Nintendo Switch Online subscribers are treated to a new wave of free content, and this time, it’s the Super Mario universe that’s in the spotlight. No less than 80 customization elements have just been added and they will not remain available for long.
Until March 2, 2026, players with an active subscription can grab a new set of icons, frames, and backgrounds inspired by Mario games for free. A time-limited operation which is part of the continuity of the celebrations around the franchise.
80 Free Super Mario Icons for Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers
Nintendo regularly renews the customization content available via its Nintendo Switch Online application. Every week, new icons linked to the brand’s major licenses are offered in exchange for platinum points.
This time, the entire selection is devoted to the Super Mario universe. Players can unlock portraits of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad and Yoshi. Several visuals from Mario Kart are also part of the collection. In total, 80 elements are offered in this wave, including both iconic characters and illustrations from recent titles.
Decors inspired by Super Mario Odyssey, Wonder and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
In addition to character portraits, the update includes new frames and backgrounds. These elements are directly inspired by games like Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The goal is to allow subscribers to fully personalize their Nintendo Switch Online profile with visuals from their favorite episodes. Each icon costs 10 platinum points. Frames and backgrounds are offered at 5 platinum points each.
How to recover these icons on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2
To obtain these items, simply turn on your Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 and open the Nintendo Switch Online application from the home screen. You then have to go to the Missions and Rewards section. The available icons then appear in the active selection of the week.
The necessary Platinum Points can be obtained by completing different missions, such as playing certain games, downloading applications included in the subscription or completing specific objectives on the console. The current selection will remain available until March 2, 2026. After this date, it will be replaced by a new series of icons.
A busy year for Super Mario and Nintendo
The Super Mario franchise celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025. Several outings marked the eventincluding remastered versions of Super Mario Galaxy Wii. In 2026, the announcements continue with Mario Tennis Fever and a Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
A new film, Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is also scheduled to hit theaters on April 1, 2026. In this context, these 80 free icons are part of a broader strategy aimed at maintaining the visibility of the license throughout the year.
