A slim hope remains
Created a little less than two years ago, Fantastic Pixel Castle had in its ranks veterans who had worked at Blizzard as well as Riot Games. This team aimed to build the foundations of an ambitious MMO in a fantasy universe, codenamed Ghostbased on a completely new license. The studio also had the particularity of working mainly from home.
A project now largely in jeopardy following the withdrawal of NetEase from the equation. Greg Street, who manages Fantastic Pixel Castle, announced via LinkedIn that the publisher was no longer funding the project today, and that therefore, if another partner was not found quickly, the studio would close its doors:
“ NetEase Games has been very kind and supportive in our search for a new publisher for our game. However, in the current market environment, few deals are made for any game, let alone an MMORPG. We do everything we can to find a publisher or an investor. At the same time, we encourage our team members to explore future opportunities and support them through this period of uncertainty. If we are unable to find a publisher quickly, the studio will likely close and the entire team, including management, will be affected. »
He nevertheless hopes that Ghost may interest investors despite this very tight market. Barring a miracle, there is little chance of this happening, and here is another brand new studio that will not have had time to release its first game.
