The route too much
Just a few weeks after the officialization of this game The Wheel of Timethe Amazon series has been canceled. What could have been a great cross-media strategy collapsed in the space of a few hours, and at IWOT Studios, this cancellation was undoubtedly greeted with great concern.
Since then, no news about the project, even if the studio still seemed to be hiring new people last month. New people already on the way, if we are to believe some of them via messages posted on LinkedInrelayed by Gautoz from the media Origami. We see, for example, Dany Aubut, recruited a few weeks ago, who indicates that the studio would be short of budget :
“ Due to financial difficulties, the company I was just hired at unfortunately ran out of funding, and my position was impacted as part of a wider layoff. Although it wasn’t planned, I was really impressed with the talent I met there for just 3 weeks and what the team had accomplished so far. »
He would therefore not be the only one affected by a layoff measure, since David Leduc St-Arnaud, technical designer, indicates that IWOT Games Montreal would have dismissed most of its teamskeeping only a hard core to look for new partners:
“ As some of you may have seen on the news or from my colleagues, IWOT Games Montreal laid off most of its staff today. After an incredible few months building an incredible demo, only a skeleton crew remains to try to raise funds for the project. »
The studio itself does not yet seem to communicate on the subject, and the game The Wheel of Time would therefore not yet be canceled, the time to see if new financing agreements can be concluded.
Founded less than a year ago by ex-Eidos/Quantic/Krafton Stéphane D’Astous, the IWOT Montreal studio already seems to be laying off workers en masse. They had to recruit 200 to 300 people to produce a AAA RPG adapted from The Wheel of Time.
