GTA 6: two awards already won before its release, and one more controversy

Still no definitive release date, but already two trophies. GTA 6 was crowned at the Golden Joystick Awards 2025, winning two symbolic awards despite another official postponement. If Rockstar remains silent and absent from the ceremonies, the game continues to fuel all the conversations – for the better, but also for the debate.

The 43rd edition of Golden Joysticks was held in London on November 20. And Grand Theft Auto VI, still in development, walked away with the awards for Most Anticipated Game and Best Trailer. A coronation relayed first on Twitter/X by the GTA 6 Countdown account, which did not fail to provoke a reaction from a community already divided by Rockstar’s communication strategy.

GTA 6 crowned without being released: two prices that are debated

Officially postponed to November 2026, GTA 6 remains inaccessible for at least another year. However, this did not prevent the organizers of the ceremony from awarding him two prestigious titles. Logical rewards, according to some, given the global enthusiasm caused by the trailers. But others see a worrying drift, starting with the total absence of gameplay in the extracts broadcast so far.

Among the most viral reactions, one review insists: “The worst category in the world is this kind of thing. Remember, Cyberpunk won the award for best trailer for a cinematic that had nothing to do with the game. No wonder they didn’t make the cut.”

Fans divided on the value of these rewards

Rockstar was not present to receive the trophies. A notable absence, but almost applauded by certain players. “We don’t show up to receive prizes for a game that hasn’t yet been released. It’s more elegant to abstain,” comments a user. Another prefers to see these rewards as a simple step: “There will be many more opportunities in the future, if everything goes according to plan!”

Behind the scenes, Rockstar’s strategy remains unchanged: radio silence, total control of communication, and no public commitment despite the agitation. An assumed choice which maintains the mystery… and the pressure.

Rockstar plays it discreet before the Game Awards

The next few weeks promise to be crucial. The Game Awards, organized by Geoff Keighley in December, could once again salute GTA 6, despite the absence of a playable version. Enough to further accentuate criticism of the tendency to reward promises before the facts.

In the meantime, fans will have to make do with the few images available, hoping they come close to the final product. A long, risky wait, but also skillfully orchestrated. Because one thing is certain: even without being released yet, GTA 6 is already everywhere.
