GTA 6 leak on PS4: Rockstar’s first plans revealed

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most anticipated events in video games. After several years of development and two successive postponements, Rockstar Games’ next title is now scheduled for November 2026.

However, a new leak has revealed a surprising detail regarding the development of the game. According to data extracted from the PlayStation database, a PlayStation 4 version of GTA 6 would have existed at some point during the project.

Old PS4 version of GTA 6 discovered in PlayStation data

The information was spotted by the GTA 6 Countdown account on the social network X. By analyzing data from Sony’s database, the latter discovered a reference to a PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto VI. This discovery suggests that Rockstar Games had considered, at the start of development, offering the game on the console released in 2013.

The development of GTA 6 having started several years ago, this hypothesis is not particularly surprising. When the project began, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X were not yet available. The PS4 version was ultimately abandoned during development.

Rockstar has changed its plans for GTA 6 several times

Development of GTA 6 has spanned a long period of time, and several initial ideas have evolved along the way. Rockstar Games would have considered different narrative approaches and several gameplay concepts before arriving at the current version of the game. The final scenario notably features two main protagonists, Jason and Lucia, who will evolve in the universe of the next Grand Theft Auto. These changes show how much the project has evolved over the years.

GTA 6 pre-orders could arrive soon

The leak isn’t just about the old PS4 version of the game. Official GTA 6 IDs have also been spotted in the PlayStation database. This step is usually carried out by engineers before adding a game to the PlayStation Store. In other words, the arrival of GTA 6 on Sony’s online store could happen soon.

A release planned for November 2026

Rockstar Games is currently planning to launch Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026. The game is expected on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and is expected to be one of the biggest launches in video game history. Until then, Rockstar should also release a new trailer to reveal more elements about the gameplay and story.
