Gran Turismo surprises fans with a big announcement, are you ready?

For more than twenty-five years, Gran Turismo has established itself as one of the major references in racing games on PlayStation. The franchise created by Polyphony Digital has accompanied several generations of consoles and remains associated with a particularly realistic driving simulation. A new episode could now be in preparation. The Japanese studio is currently recruiting several profiles to work on the production of a future Gran Turismo game.

Polyphony Digital is recruiting for a new Gran Turismo

Polyphony Digital has opened several positions related to the development of a new Gran Turismo project. At the time of the announcement, approximately 18 positions were available within the studio. These offers concern different video game development professions. Among the profiles sought are testers, 3D artists and other positions related to the production of the game. A message published on the recruitment page accompanies this announcement and appears to come from Kazunori Yamauchi, founder of Polyphony Digital and creator of the franchise.

In this message, he recalls the journey of the series and discusses the future of Gran Turismo. “I’ve been working on Gran Turismo for 25 years. If we have been able to continue to develop it, it is thanks to the players. I think this is proof that my hard work has paid off. We are proud to have brought the ideas of the future to life as much as possible through art and technology. But I think that providing the best possible experience for players is not enough… I want to create the future with art and technology. To you who have an insatiable thirst for creation: we look forward to discovering your passion, your technology and your ideas. »

An iconic racing franchise for over 25 years

Since its first appearance on the original PlayStation in 1997, Gran Turismo has established itself as one of racing gaming’s most iconic franchises. The historic slogan of the series, often presented as “the real driving simulator”, illustrates the studio’s ambition to offer an experience close to real driving.

Over the years, the series has evolved with new car models, more detailed circuits and significant technical improvements. Gran Turismo 7, the last major installment in the franchise, was released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The game features a wide variety of cars and tracks, as well as a mode compatible with the PSVR2 virtual reality headset.

A future Gran Turismo could arrive on the next generation

The development of a new episode does not necessarily mean a quick release. The development cycles of Gran Turismo games are often particularly long. Gran Turismo 7, for example, was released several years after its predecessor. In this context, some observers believe that the next episode could arrive late in the life cycle of the PlayStation 5, or even on a future PlayStation 6. For the moment, Polyphony Digital has not officially announced Gran Turismo 8 nor confirmed the title of the next game.

The future of car simulation at PlayStation

Gran Turismo remains one of the major licenses in the PlayStation catalog. The series relies on a loyal community of passionate car simulation players. Each new episode seeks to push the technical boundaries of the genre, whether in terms of driving physics, vehicle modeling or visual realism. The recruitment launched by Polyphony Digital shows that the studio continues to prepare for the future of the franchise. Although no release date has yet been announced, the existence of these posts suggests that the next chapter of Gran Turismo is already in the works.
