It’s now official. The much awaited Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026six months behind the date initially planned. Rockstar Games and its parent company Take Two explain this second postponement as a necessity for “fine-tune the game” and deliver an experience worthy of the studio’s reputation.
A second postponement confirmed by Take-Two, which wants to reassure fans
Interviewed by IGN, the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnickis reassuring: “We wanted to give Rockstar the time necessary to refine the game and ensure that it is the best possible.” This speech echoes that made during the first postponement, which had already postponed the release of fall 2025 to May 2026.
But this new announcement is not just a simple revision of the calendar. In parallel with the update of the official GTA 6 website, Rockstar has confirmed that only PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles are affected for the November 2026 launch. No mention of a PC version has not been added.
A PC version still absent: not before 2027, or even 2028?
Faced with the persistent absence of a PC version, speculation is starting again. Some players, already resigned to a post-launch wait, hoped that this second delay would push Rockstar to align PC output on console versions. This is not the case.
When asked the question last year, Zelnick evaded with a cryptic answer: “The absence of an announcement does not seem definitive, in my opinion. After such an absence, there could be an announcement, or a persistent absence of an announcement.”
One thing is certain: PC gamers may have to wait at least end of 2027even 2028to get your hands on GTA 6. A strategy consistent with Rockstar’s previous releases, but which risks reinforcing frustration, especially since the publisher maintains complicated historical relationships with the modding community.
Rockstar remains faithful to its platform strategy
In the meantime, Strauss Zelnick insists that Rockstar’s release strategy remains audience-focused: “I’m convinced that the right strategy for our company is to be where the consumer is.”
A statement that leaves the door open to a later PC launch, as was the case for GTA V And Red Dead Redemption 2. But with a game as ambitious as GTA 6, announced as the biggest entertainment launch of all timethe patience of PC gamers will be severely tested.
