The mod GTA 4 RTX Remixdeveloped by user xoxor4d and available on GitHub, is not a remake strictly speaking. Rather, it is a compatibility patch that allows the game to take advantage of the latest graphics technologies from NVIDIA, in particular the path tracingan advanced form of ray tracing.
According to the mod description, “all lights in the game, including the sun, are converted to Remix compatible lights”thus transforming the visual atmosphere without modifying the original textures. The result is spectacular: realistic shadows, dynamic reflections and reworked depth of fieldwhile retaining the raw aesthetic of GTA 4.
Technical requirements not to be neglected
Despite the game’s initial release in 2008, this modified version is far from being accessible to all machines. To fully enjoy this visual remaster, NVIDIA recommends at least a GeForce RTX 4070a high-end card, making it an experience reserved for solid configurations.
The creator of the mod specifies that “High performance path tracing is still out of reach for most users”but the initiative proves how this technology is becoming more and more common in the modding scene.
GTA 4, still as cult 18 years later
Released in 2008, Grand Theft Auto IV remains a video game classic. Some criticized its “greyish” color palette at the time, but this visual limitation is now elegantly revisited thanks to the RTX Remix. Unlike the sometimes failed official remasters, like the trilogy GTA: The Definitive Editionthis mod respects the original DNA of the game while bringing it a visual modernity.

How to install GTA 4 RTX Remix mod

- Download GTA 4: Complete Edition (Steam version recommended).
- Go to xoxor4d’s GitHub page and download the RTX Remix Compatibility 1.1.5 mod.
- Follow the installation instructions provided (copying files, activating the mod in settings).
- Start the game with a RTX graphics card recent and enjoy the show.
