Pokémon officially launches a new free game with free bonuses for everyone

Pokémon fans have become accustomed to monitoring every official announcement. This time, it’s a new project that attracts attention: Pokémon Champions. This free game is due out in April 2026 and will be available on Nintendo Switch as well as mobile. Its goal is clear – to allow players to battle each other using Pokémon from multiple titles in the franchise.

Behind this project, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo want to offer a platform dedicated to competitive battles. Pokémon Champions arrives in a particular context, while the competitive scene today is mainly based on Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. The arrival of this new game could redistribute the cards.

Pokémon Champions, a new free game expected in April 2026

Pokémon Champions was first mentioned as a future pillar of the license. Initially expected in 2025, the game was finally postponed. Now the release window is set for April 2026.

The title will be accessible for free, with a model focused on clashes between players. One of the great features of the game is the possibility of using Pokémon from other games in the franchise.

Early players could also benefit from rewards. Those who download Pokémon Champions before an as yet unspecified date will be able to receive several bonuses in their account, including a Dragonite and several special stones such as Chesnaughtite, Delphoxite, Greninjite or even Floettite. These items should make it possible to improve certain creatures and prepare competitive teams from the first weeks.

The Pokémon HOME system at the heart of Pokémon Champions

The operation of Pokémon Champions will largely rely on integration with Pokémon HOME, the franchise’s creature storage and transfer service. The Pokémon Company has clarified the first rules regarding this system. In an official communication, the company explains:

“By connecting Pokémon Champions to Pokémon HOME, you will be able to bring certain Pokémon into Pokémon Champions as Visitors, and return Visiting Pokémon to Pokémon HOME. If Visiting Pokémon learn abilities that cannot be used in Pokémon Champions, they will need to learn new ones through training. If you train Visiting Pokémon into Pokémon Champions and return them to Pokémon HOME, they will retain their training skills when they return to Pokémon Champions, unless they return in a different form.”

In practical terms, this means that players will be able to import certain Pokémon from other games, use them temporarily in Pokémon Champions, and then return them to their main storage. This system opens the door to a wide diversity of teams and strategies. Imported creatures must nevertheless respect the specific rules of the game.

Pokémon Champions could shake up the competitive scene

One of the most watched aspects by players is the impact of Pokémon Champions on Pokémon esports. Currently, official competitions mainly use Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. But several signs suggest that the situation could change.

Pokémon Champions should be used during the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. If this choice is confirmed, it would then become the main game for official competitions. This change could transform the way professional players build their teams. With the ability to import Pokémon from several games, the number of strategic combinations could greatly increase.

An ambitious bet for the Pokémon franchise

Expectations around Pokémon Champions are high. The Pokémon franchise has already demonstrated its ability to turn simple concepts into global phenomena. A free-to-play game focused on competitive combat could attract casual gamers and esports fans alike. Everything will depend on the stability of the game, the balance of combat and the quality of the online service. If Pokémon Champions manages to meet these expectations, it could quickly become an unmissable event for fans of Pokémon battles.
