The month of February is off to a strong start for PlayStation Plus subscribers. In addition to a solid selection of games, Sony offers them a free Hollow Knight upgrade on PS5. This classic 2D platform game, acclaimed since its release, now benefits from an improved version, smoother and more spectacular than ever.
The news was shared on Reddit by user ZXXII, and since confirmed by Team Cherry. All PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will have access to this version, as soon as the last technical issues are resolved in the catalog.
A free upgrade, but not without a hassle
Initially, only owners of the PS4 version were able to access the upgrade at no cost. PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, although affected, encountered a bug blocking access to this next-gen version. Team Cherry quickly reassured players: the PS5 update will be available for free in the catalog, once the technical problems have been corrected. This version significantly improves the experience: boosted framerate, better resolution, new visual effects, bug fixes… so many adjustments that make the game even more pleasant to explore.
Why Hollow Knight deserves this second life on PS5
Initially released in 2017, Hollow Knight quickly became a reference in the genre Metroidvania. Its unique atmosphere, its melancholic world and its precise gameplay have earned it almost unanimous critical recognition: 89/100 on OpenCritic, with 97% recommendations.
More accessible than its highly anticipated sequel silk songthe original game remains a challenging but rewarding experience. This PS5 version allows a new generation of players – or nostalgic veterans – to dive back into the mysterious depths of Hallownest in optimal conditions. And thanks to the increased fluidity, there is no longer any question of blaming lag to justify a fall into a bottomless pit.
February 2026: an excellent year for PS Plus subscribers
