Fallout New Vegas 2 teased by a famous screenwriter in an unexpected statement

Since 2010, Fallout: New Vegas remains for many the peak of Bethesda’s post-apo saga. While the series Fallout is a hit in streaming and the game is coming back into favor on PC and consoles, a name has just reignited the embers: Chris Avellone.

The cult screenwriter, formerly Obsidian Entertainmentpronounced “New Vegas 2” in black and white in a long interview with the YouTuber TKs-Mantis. But behind this wink lies above all the story of an aborted sequel, and a cold estimate of the chances of one day seeing Fallout New Vegas 2.

Fallout New Vegas 2: what did Chris Avellone really say to ignite the fans?

In this discussion lasting several hours, cited by InsiderGamingChris Avellone discusses at length Van Burenthe project of Fallout 3 canceled of which he recycled some of the ideas in New Vegas and its DLCs. He explains in particular that he wrote the DLC Lonesome Road as a pivot for the future.

“That’s why all these nuclear warheads are leaving, because I said to myself: I have to destabilize certain regions. Not erase factions, but shake up the Brotherhood and the NCR, pit them even more against each other in California,” he explains. These scenario choices were, according to him, “precursors” designed for a potential New Vegas 2.

What would Fallout New Vegas 2 have looked like in the minds of the creators?

Chris Avellone reveals that this project was intended to serve as an outlet for all the content of Van Buren remained in the boxes. Where New Vegas has already integrated part of it, the sequel would have pushed the caravan wars further, a New California Republic weakened and Brotherhood of Steel losing influence, in an even more unstable California.

The screenwriter also discusses other avenues explored at Obsidian. According to FRVRdesigners have for example pitched a Fallout: New Orleansinspired by the comics Grendel: Four Devils, One Hell : a drowned New Orleans, plagued by crime and cults, the perfect setting for a spiritual spin-off of New Vegas. Avellone finally slips that season 3 of the Fallout series “could” borrow some of these ideas.

Fallout New Vegas 2 before 2032: cherished dream or impossible project?

Despite these revelations, Chris Avellone dampens hopes. Still in this interview relayed by InsiderGaminghe believes that a new Fallout way New Vegas 2 “won’t happen in the next six years at least, if ever.” In other words, not before 2032 in the most optimistic scenario.

His opinion counts, but he also reminds us that he is no longer at Obsidian. The studio is now focusing on its own licenses such as Avowed Or The Outer Worlds 2while Bethesda Game Studios already has a busy roadmap with The Elder Scrolls VI Then Fallout 5. For players, the most likely is that the legacy of Fallout New Vegas 2 is distributed in small steps in the TV series and future games, rather than via an official Mojave-branded sequel.
