As a busy summer of international competitions approaches, Electronic Arts is changing its approach. Rather than relying solely on traditional sales, the publisher now offers a free version of EA FC 26, entitled Showcase.
Available on PS5, Xbox Series, PC, Xbox One and PS4, this edition is aimed at both the curious and casual players who have not yet invested in the full game. No PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass subscription is required to download it. However, a permanent Internet connection and an EA account are required to access it. A way for the publisher to expand its audience at a time when interest in football is intensifying.
What the free version actually contains
EA FC 26 Showcase does not provide access to all modes of the main game. It is based on a targeted selection of content which allows you to discover the essential mechanics. Three experiences are offered: Kickoff mode offers quick matches with a rotation of teams and formats. Players can therefore test different formations and configurations without long-term commitment.
Clubs Rush mode highlights 5-a-side football. It introduces dynamic Live events playable online with friends. It is possible to create your own avatar and improve your level over the course of your encounters. Finally, the Learn to Play module functions as an interactive training center. It is aimed at both beginners and regulars wishing to perfect their technical and tactical mastery.
An already substantial selection of licensed clubs
Despite its free status, Showcase includes a particularly extensive catalog of clubs. All Ligue 1 McDonald’s, Arkema Premier League, Bundesliga and Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga clubs are accessible from launch.
Major teams complete this selection: Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid for LALIGA EA SPORTS and Liga F Moeve, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and Barclays Women’s Super League, as well as AS Roma and its women’s team in Serie A Enilive. This solid basis makes it possible to evaluate the realism of the workforce, entertainment and stadium atmospheres without excessive restriction.
Cross-play and transfer of progress: a key point
One of the determining elements of this free version concerns the integration with the rest of the EA FC 26 ecosystem. Cross-play is activated. Players using Showcase can compete against those with the full version, provided they play in compatible modes.
Another strategic point: all the progress made in this free edition can be transferred to the full game in the event of a subsequent purchase. This migration, however, remains conditional on using the same EA account and remaining on the same platform. With EA FC 26 Showcase, Electronic Arts is installing a hybrid model between an evolving demo and a gateway to the full edition, at a key moment in the football season.
