Despite fears of saturation: there is no end in sight to the Isekai boom

Anyone who expected the market to soon become oversaturated due to the seemingly endless mass of new Isekai works was completely wrong, as the genre is apparently still riding a wave of success. We summarize.

Isekai boom continues

The publisher TO Books is classified as small to medium-sized in the Japanese publishing landscape, which is also due to its strong focus on isekai light novels and their manga adaptations. As a result, the publisher is considered to specialize in this area and can make appropriately well-founded statements – including on current trends.

In the past eleven months, the company claims to have achieved sales figures that exceeded expectations. This led to an adjustment of the profit forecast for the current financial year from 1.67 to 1.87 billion yen (an increase of around 1.1 million euros). Growth of around 6.0% is also expected for the coming financial year.

The anime adaptations of “The Water Magician” and “A Gentle Noble’s Vacation Recommendation” are said to have played a large part in the success.

With the fourth season of “The Ascendance of a Bookworm”, another popular title from the publisher recently celebrated its TV premiere and a second season of “The Weakest Tamer” has also already been announced.

An end to the Isekai boom is unlikely to be in sight for a long time – not even in the anime industry, where the number of corresponding titles has increased more than fivefold in recent years.
