Cyberattack at Super U: customers asked to quickly change their password

If you have a U account or a U loyalty cardit’s time to verify your credentials. There Cooperative U confirmed a cyberattack targeting the customer platform stores-u.comwith unauthorized access to certain accounts. In a context of a wave of hacks affecting mass distribution, Super U is one of the new targets of cybercriminals.

The brand sent an alert email to numerous customers to report this “suspicious activity” on online spaces. The message is clear on one point: personal data was consulted, even if banking data would be spared for the moment. Remains an absolute priority for U customers: quickly change their password.

Cyberattack at Super U: what happened to customer accounts?

According to the email cited by 01net, Cooperative U warns its customers that “we have detected suspicious activity on your stores-u.com customer area, which we deplore. Despite the security measures in place, certain accounts have been subject to unauthorized access”. Lauttaque therefore directly targets the account and loyalty management platform.

According to the specialized site FrenchBreaches, the incident was notified to the CNIL and additional security measures are being deployed to block further intrusions. Even if the brand claims to do “everything possible to protect” the data, the risk now comes mainly from the fraudulent use of information already exposed.

Super U cyberattack: what data is exposed and what risks for you?

The information potentially consulted concerns your personal data linked to U account :

  • Identity: title, surname, first name
  • Contact details: email address, postal address, telephone number
  • Loyalty information: U card number, professional customer status

THE banking data would not be affected at this stage. But with this type of information, hackers can already set up several scenarios:

  • Phishing targeted: fake emails or SMS imitating Super U to recover your codes or bank card numbers
  • Identity theft to open accounts or subscribe to services
  • Fraud on your U loyalty card and his kitty
  • Resale of your data on the black market, with invasion of your privacy

Super U password: what should you do now and how to protect yourself?

First reflex recommended by U Stores : change your password. On stores-u.comclick on “My account”, enter your email then on “I forgot my password”. You will receive a reset email to set a new one.

Cooperative U recommends a password of “minimum length of 8 characters”, with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one special character, without using your first name, last name or date of birth. Also avoid resuming the old password by changing only one or two characters.

If you reuse the same Super U password on other services, also change it on your email, your other e-commerce sites and any sensitive services. For your U card PINnever choose your bank card code or your date of birth.

Finally, in the coming weeks, be wary of any message mentioning your U card, your kitty or an urgent account update. Check the sender’s address, don’t click on questionable links, and if in doubt, go directly to the official website or your U app.
