The streaming service Crunchyroll and the Japanese anime trade fair AnimeJapan have joined forces to create the New Creator Awards. We summarize the details below.
Looking for new talent
The New Creator Awards aims to discover and promote emerging creative talent in the anime industry. Students in the field of animation in particular can take part and submit a short film with a maximum running time of 15 minutes using this link by January 31, 2026.
A jury consisting of representatives from 22 companies from the anime industry then selects the seven winning entries. On March 28, 2026, the winners will be presented during AnimeJapan 2026 and honored in a total of seven categories, for each of which different prize money will be awarded:
- Grand Prix Prize: 1 million yen (about 5,624 euros)
- Crunchyroll Award: 1 million yen scholarship
- Best technical application: 300,000 yen (about 1,687 euros)
- Best Director: 300,000 yen
- Best Character Design: 300,000 yen
- Best Artwork: 300,000 yen
- AnimeJapan special price: Short films will not only be shown at AnimeJapan, but also at other national and international anime conventions.
All seven winning works will also be released in Japan on the streaming service d-anime Store and internationally on Crunchyroll.
