The idea of a portable version of Crimson Desert is starting to take shape. The Pearl Abyss studio has confirmed that it has launched research and development work to adapt its game to the Nintendo Switch 2. This announcement comes as the game has enjoyed significant success since its release, with generally very positive reviews. For the studio, expanding its audience by targeting a new platform seems like a logical continuation.
Technical limits which already impose compromises
But this adaptation will not be done without concessions. The Nintendo Switch 2, despite its improvements, remains less powerful than other current platforms. The Pearl Abyss teams will therefore have to adjust certain elements, notably the graphic quality. The studio also wishes to “evaluate the impact on user satisfaction” before definitively validating this port. This technical constraint already raises a central question: how far can we reduce visual quality without distorting the experience?
A decision still far from being confirmed
As of yet, no official release date or confirmation has been announced. Heo Jin-young is cautious: “It is impossible to make a definitive statement on the feasibility or timetable at this stage. We are monitoring the situation closely and preparing for it.” In other words, the project exists, but it is still in the study stage. The studio takes the time to evaluate whether the final result will meet players’ expectations.
Pearl Abyss is already preparing for the future with other projects
At the same time, Pearl Abyss does not only focus on Crimson Desert. The core team is already working on their next game, DokeV. The CEO also recalls the studio’s overall strategy: “reaffirmed that the continued development of the platform, including on mobile, constitutes our medium and long term strategy.” This positioning shows that the studio is seeking to increase the number of supports, while adapting to the constraints specific to each platform.
