Motorized chaos is back
Carmageddon seems to keep its identity which made it successful at the time. Namely, unapologetic violence, crumpled metal and hordes of enemies to crush. But with Rogue Shift, the franchise embraces a more modern approach by integrating roguelite mechanics. Each run will be a new attempt at survival in a post-apocalyptic world invaded by the Wasteds, mutated creatures from a dietary supplement gone bad.
We play as an anonymous pilot participating in Carmageddon, a deadly tournament where victory is the only way out to a hypothetical refuge beyond the mountains. Armed with a beat-up but upgradeable vehicle, you’ll have to face competing gangs, corrupt police forces and monstrous bosses. An atmosphere that is somewhat reminiscent of what the Twisted Metal franchise does.
The studio promises a fast-paced experience centered around destructive races, brutal mechanical combat and random progression in each session. Among the features highlighted, we have:
- 15 upgradeable vehicles with different behaviors depending on the type of transmission
- 13 weapon classes, from shotgun to railgun, fully modular
- More than 80 skills, allowing you to create devastating synergies
- Advanced damage model, with deformable or torn body parts
- Dynamic day/night weather cycle, which influences readability and strategy
Each run will allow you to accumulate resources to unlock permanent improvements in a black market, and thus optimize your chances during subsequent runs.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift will be released in early 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, as well as on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
