Capcom clarifies its position around AI and says it wants to use it for development, but not for game content

AI, yes, but…

With generative AI being the hot topic of the moment, everyone is talking about it, but most of the big players in the industry are treading very carefully (unlike NVIDIA’s CEO). Capcom therefore recognizes that it embraces AI for tools that improve productivity, provided that it does not generate any artistic assets via this means. :

Our company will not integrate elements generated by generative AI into game content. However, we plan to actively use this technology to improve the efficiency and productivity of the development process. That’s why we are currently exploring different ways to use it in various areas, such as graphics, sound and programming. »

It now remains to be seen whether the publisher is ready to accept the use of external tools like DLSS 5 which are based on generative AI, as we have seen recently. And this answer also doesn’t say if temporary elements will be created this way, leading to a new case at hand. Crimson Desert. In short, everyone is currently walking on eggshells as the public reaction can be very fierce to this tool, but now be sure that generative AI is well integrated at Capcom in a way that will perhaps be more acceptable to some.
