Battlefield 6: season 2 postponed, EA announces bonuses to keep you waiting

Battlefield fans will have to revise their schedule. Initially scheduled for January 21, season 2 of EA’s shooter will finally be launched on February 17. A one-month postponement, officially confirmed by the publisher in a press release published on the official Battlefield subreddit.

To justify the change in schedule, EA said: “During the game’s continued development, we continued to take community feedback into account and, in order to deliver on our promise, we determined that the best solution was to extend Season 1 and give us more time to polish Season 2.”

An extended season 1, a smooth transition

Rather than leaving a slack period, EA has decided to extend Season 1 beyond its originally planned end date of January 20. The expansion update will still arrive that day, with new content. “Season 1 will be extended beyond its in-game end date of January 20, and we will launch Season 2 on February 17.

The Season 1 expansion update for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC will be released on January 20 and will include new weekly challenges, a bonus path, and the continuation of the Season 1 Battle Pass until the start date of Season 2.” So players will still have something to do, with additional rewards to unlock until the next season launches.

The “Frostfire” bonus course as a gift

To compensate for this postponement, EA is offering a new bonus course called “Frostfire”, accessible from January 27. This includes several free items: XP bonus, vehicle skin, personalization elements for the player card. The owners of Battle Pass will also be entitled to a weapon pack and a career XP bonus.

Importantly, this course is exclusively linked to weekly challenges: “Unlike previous bonus courses, all points in the Frostfire bonus course are obtained through weekly challenges; there are no bonus challenges associated with this bonus course.”

A strategic wait for EA, pressure on the shoulders

This postponement is part of a broader strategy to improve content, while Battlefield 6 is still trying to convince part of its community. By postponing Season 2, EA is avoiding delivering an incomplete update, while keeping its players active with bonus content. It remains to be seen whether this extension will be enough to keep us waiting until February 17… without too much frustration.
