Battlefield 6 cuts bot XP: slowed progression, cascading updates

Battlefield 6 may have been a hit since its release on October 10, with more than 7 million copies sold in five days, but not all players are delighted. One of the most widespread – and controversial – practices of gambling, namely farming XP with bots in Portal mode, has just been heavily sanctioned by the developers. Now, personalized experiences with bots earn less XPor even none for certain challenges or rewards.

Concretely, for the creators of verified experiences to be able to maintain full progress, they must deactivate the “Bot Backfill”, cancel their creation, and republish it. Even with these precautions, personalized experiences will still generate reduced progress. This applies even if no bot is activated.

Objective: put gameplay back at the center

According to Battlefield Studios, this move aims to restore balance in matchmaking and refocus Portal on its original goals. In a community update on October 24, the team claims:

“We’ve removed Mastery XP and challenge completion from all Portal lobbies where bots were enabled. This has significantly reduced the usefulness of XP bot farming, the goal being to prevent players from clogging up the servers.”

Players who wish to continue creating original experiences can still do so, but will have to accept a limited progressin order to prevent these lounges from becoming diverted farming zones.

Adjustments before the arrival of Season 1

These decisions do not happen at random. Battlefield 6 Season 1 begins on October 28 with three successive acts: Rogue Ops, California Resistance (November 18) and Winter Offensive (December 9). Ahead of this major update, the developers also applied several backend changes to “support healthier matchmaking and better overall experiences in Portal.”

At the same time, persistent rooms may require occasional restarts. Adjustments will continue throughout the season.
