Launched with fanfare last October, Battlefield 6 shattered commercial expectations. “Battlefield 6 sold more than 7 million copies in just three days”, becoming the franchise’s biggest launch. But barely three months later, a controversy tarnished this success. The “Objective Ace” skin, offered in the Season 1 Battlefield Pro pack, is accused by fans of being a direct plagiarism of Call of Duty: Ghosts.
The point of contention? The design of the face mask, adorned with a cracked skull. On Reddit, users shared side-by-side images of the Ghosts mask and logo, pointing out uncanny similarities. “The mask even has a crack in the same position as a gash in the Ghosts logo.”
Suspicions of generative AI: a first in the franchise?
The accusations do not stop at simple copying. Many players claim that the mask was created using artificial intelligence. “Many fans have accused Battlefield 6 of using AI to create the design,” highlighting some visual imperfections typical of auto-generated designs.
The debate is not new. When updating Winter Offensivea sticker called “Winter Warning” had already triggered a wave of similar criticism. Nothing has been officially confirmed, but an old internal comment has resurfaced. “DICE’s Rebecka Coutaz called the potential of generative AI ‘very attractive'”.
EA and DICE remain silent despite the excitement
To date, neither EA nor DICE have released a statement to address the controversy. A strategy of silence that leaves room for interpretation and reinforces unease in the community. This isn’t the first time developers have left fans unanswered after visual or technical mishaps.
Meanwhile, discontent is growing. Forums and social networks are multiplying comparisons between the two competing franchises. Some also point out the possible abuses of AI in the creation of cosmetic content, which are often underestimated.
After a record launch, a crumbling reputation
The context does not help to calm the spirits. Although the launch of Battlefield 6 was historic, the game has since struggled to maintain its momentum. “Battlefield 6 has also had its fair share of issues since launch,” including bugs, unstable menus, and performance drops.
The fix deployed after Winter Offensive was not enough to reassure. “The Winter Offensive patch was heavily criticized by fans”, and many migrated to the competition. Between Black Ops 7 from Treyarch and ARC Raidersplayers today have more choices than ever. And this skin scandal could well accentuate the bleeding.
