Sora2 can no longer use Sora
In addition to Bandai Namco and Square Enix, other studios and publishers have joined the movement such as Cygames or Kadokawa Corporation (which owns FromSoftware). These companies are seeking to assert their rights against tools like Sora2, which draws on the work of all these beautiful people. The Game Developer website reports that The Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) has filed a written request to OpenAI to stop this practice, stating that the company is violating copyright laws through its generation of images or videos:
“ CODA has determined that this issue results from using Japanese content as machine learning data. In cases, such as that of Sora2, where copyrighted works are reproduced or similarly generated, CODA considers that the act of reproduction during the machine learning process may constitute copyright infringement. »
This complaint comes despite promises from Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, who claimed that Sora2 would better protect authors by giving them the ability to refuse to have their creations used. This is not the first time that OpenAI has found itself having to manage conflicts of this kind, and it will undoubtedly not be the last if measures are not taken quickly, with CODA asking “ a sincere response “.
