Ubisoft renounces the path of paid extensions for Assassin’s Creed Shadowsbut is preparing a reinforced update program for the year 2026. Far from a traditional Season Pass, post-launch content adopts a new approach, with more frequent additions and unexpected collaborations.
“For the moment, and for this second year, no extension of [Claws of Awaji] is not planned. We are still working on post-launch content and monitoring it, but it is not a full-fledged DLC like a Season Pass would have been in previous years,” explained Simon Lemay-Comtois, Associate Game Director, in an interview with JorRaptor.
No Claws of Awaji 2, but active monitoring assured
Unlike previous episodes of the saga, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not benefit from a major expansion or a classic Season Pass. The much-noticed Claws of Awaji DLC will therefore remain an exception. In 2026, Ubisoft will favor more modular, but more frequent, additions.
Simon Lemay-Comtois is clear on this point: “The development team will now focus on more substantial updates which will shake things up a little”. These updates should draw more inspiration from the crossover event with Attack on Titanintegrated during update 1.1.6.
A new content strategy
This collaboration, which surprised the community, marks a turning point in post-launch content policy. Ubisoft seems to opt for regular additions, punctuated by narrative events or original mechanics, rather than massive expansions.
“Fans can therefore expect content similar to that of yesterday, and even more… of at least the same magnitude.” The studio thus promises to maintain interest in the game without imposing an additional purchase on players.
A controversial launch… turned into a success
When it was released in March 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows caused controversy due to the integration of Yasuke, a black samurai inspired by a historical character. Yves Guillemot returned to the controversy at Paris Games Week, referring to “a battle with our fans”.
Despite this, the game quickly established itself as a commercial hit, surpassing Mario Kart World And Monster Hunter Wilds in August 2025. Reviews were very positive and version 1.1.6 revived player interest with a new story quest and popular fixes.
A roadmap expected for early 2026
Players can therefore expect a new dynamic from the first months of next year. While Ubisoft has not yet detailed a complete roadmap, the team has confirmed that several updates are already planned, and that other collaborations could emerge.
Between scripted content, gameplay additions or events inspired by external works, Assassin’s Creed Shadows seems to be banking on diversity and surprise to maintain the enthusiasm of its community in 2026.
