A new free cult game comes to Switch 2, just in time for Halloween



The thrill season is also coming to your console. A few days before Halloween, Nintendo announces the arrival of a cult game from its retro catalog on the Switch Online + Additional Pack subscription. And it’s a nugget that Mario and Luigi fans will recognize among thousands.

From October 30, 2025, all Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on Switch 2 console will be able to download Luigi’s Mansion for free, the very first opus of the cult series originally released in 2001 on GameCube. A perfectly calibrated choice for Halloween, in which Luigi finds himself alone exploring a haunted mansion to save his brother Mario, armed only with a vacuum cleaner to capture the ghosts.

Luigi’s Mansion comes to Nintendo Switch Online for free

Nintendo continues to enrich its retro library with a new iconic title. After highly anticipated additions like The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker Or F-Zero GXthis time it is Luigi’s mansion which opens its doors to subscribers. The game will be available via the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics app, starting October 30.

For players subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack, this is the opportunity to rediscover the unique atmosphere of this adventure game with dark humor and original mechanics. Released in 2001, Luigi’s Mansion marked a break in the Mario universe by placing Luigi at the forefront, in a strange and captivating quest.

A GameCube classic reserved for Switch 2 subscribers

It is important to note that only Nintendo Switch 2 owners can enjoy this new free game. Nintendo has confirmed that GameCube games will not be offered on early versions of the console, notably due to technical limitations. News that may disappoint owners of the original Switch.

The title thus joins an increasingly complete collection on Switch 2, with already six classics added this year including Super Mario Strikers, SOULCALIBUR II or even Chibi Robo.
