While Valve continues its ambition to conquer living rooms with the Steam Machine, a recent leak from a Czech reseller is causing debate. This mini-PC designed to be connected to the television would offer six times more power than the Steam Deck, thanks to an impressive configuration:
- AMD Zen 4 processor (6 cores / 12 threads, up to 4.8 GHz)
- AMD RDNA3 graphics card (28 CU, 8 GB VRAM GDDR6)
- 16 GB DDR5 RAM
- NVMe SSD storage from 512 GB to 2 TB
- SteamOS 3 system and numerous USB ports
A leak that shakes Reddit
According to a post shared on the subreddit GamingLeaksAndRumoursthe 512 GB model would be displayed at 19,826 CZK (around 950 USD), and the 2 TB model at 22,305 CZK (around 1070 USD). These prices far exceed initial estimates which predicted a sale price of around $700. “Yeah, at that price, it suits me!” » Another added: “I don’t think I can justify such a price. »
Between cutting-edge hardware and tense context
The computer hardware market is experiencing strong tensions. As Linus Tech Tips explains, the RAM shortage is already impacting the development of future consoles. It is therefore difficult for Valve to maintain an aggressive price. Some put it into perspective: “For $1000, you have a mini-PC capable of running thousands of games at 1080p/60 FPS from your sofa. It’s a good deal. »
A compromised launch?
Valve has not confirmed these prices. This could be an indicative price or inflated by the reseller. However, if these figures prove accurate, the Steam Machine could face a major obstacle: public support. Valve walks a fine line between innovation and accessibility. If the technical bet is successful, the commercial bet remains very uncertain.
