XCOM 2, one of the most acclaimed titles in 2K’s tactical game series, is currently available for free on PC. Usually sold for $60, this game can be obtained free of charge by Amazon Prime subscribers, via the Prime Gaming application. But be careful, the offer expires tomorrow, January 7, 2026.
“You have until tomorrow, January 7, to collect it,” warns the specialized site. The game is offered in code form, activatable on the GOG platform, without DRM and without obligation to maintain the Prime subscription once the copy of the game is obtained.
How to get XCOM 2 on PC for free?
The offer is simple: Amazon Prime subscribers must go to Prime Gaming, claim XCOM 2, then use the code provided on the GOG website. Once the game is added to their library, it is theirs forever. “You will receive a code for the GOG version of the game, which can then be played DRM-free via the GOG platform, and does not require an Amazon Prime subscription to play.” This 2K marketing operation undoubtedly aims to revive interest in a franchise that has been somewhat forgotten since 2020, the year of release of the last opus, XCOM: Chimera Squad.
XCOM 2: a monument of modern strategy
Released in 2016, XCOM 2 has established itself as a must-have in the turn-based tactical game. The player plays the commander of XCOM, a secret organization trying to free Earth from extraterrestrial occupation. Gameplay relies on highly strategic ground combat, long-term base management decisions, and legendary difficulty.
“XCOM is a science fiction strategy game series where you repel an alien invasion using the soldiers of an elite government organization,” recalls the author. The reboot started by 2K in 2012 gave a second wind to this saga born in the 90s.
An offer that is part of a broader 2K strategy
The 2K studio is not its first attempt at iconic franchises. We also owe him Civilization, Borderlands and Mafia, all renewed in recent years.
“Games like Civilization, Mafia and Borderlands are just a few of the most popular franchises in 2K’s catalog,” the article points out. The operation around XCOM 2 could well augur a new episode to come, even if nothing has yet been officially announced.
