Fans of The Witcher thought they were done with the epic of Geralt of Rivia. However, a surprise expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could well rekindle the flame. Announced by a financial analyst, this additional content would serve as a narrative bridge to the highly anticipated The Witcher 4.
Since its release in 2015, CD Projekt RED’s flagship game has seen two critically acclaimed expansions: Hearts of Stone And Blood and Wine. But in May 2026, according to a report from Mateusz Chrzanowski, analyst at Noble Securities, a new paid DLC would be launched to directly connect Geralt’s story to that of Ciri, future protagonist of the next episode.
A DLC to prepare for the arrival of The Witcher 4
While The Witcher 4 is expected for the fourth quarter of 2027, this extension would serve to link the two sagas. Chrzanowski states in his report: “We anticipate that the next paid additional content (DLC) for The Witcher 3 will be released in May 2026.”
The analyst expects significant commercial success, with “sales of 11 million copies at $30 next year.” This DLC would help revive interest in the license, while preparing the future communication campaign around The Witcher 4. “This release should kick off a real marketing campaign for The Witcher 4,” he specifies.
Ciri in the spotlight, Geralt in inheritance
According to speculation, the expansion could explore Ciri’s transformation into a witcher, or offer an emotional transition between the end of Geralt’s arc and the start of his protégé’s. Nothing has been confirmed from CD Projekt RED, but the prospect of a new narrative chapter in the universe of The Witcher already excites fans.
The company has not issued any official comments, either on the content or on the development of such DLC. However, the seriousness of the source and the strategic coherence with the marketing calendar of The Witcher 4 give weight to this hypothesis.
CD Projekt RED faces an ambitious schedule
The Polish studio is not idle. In addition to this possible content for The Witcher 3, several projects are underway: the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077codenamed Orion, and other productions like Sirius, Canis Majoris and Hadar. A dense roadmap which demonstrates CDPR’s ambition for the coming years.
While waiting for official confirmation, fans can hope for a final return to the Northern Countries. And perhaps, relive Geralt’s adventures one last time… before passing the torch.
