Resident Evil Requiem: new gameplay images awaken memories of the Spencer mansion

Survival horror fans did not miss the latest images of the highly anticipated Resident Evil: Requiem, broadcast on December 4, 2025 on Japanese television. The game, still shrouded in mystery, finally showed itself in brief sequences which immediately captured the attention of purists: narrow corridors, menacing shadow plays, creaking doors, everything seems to recall the atmosphere of the Spencer mansion from the very first Resident Evil.

Is this a nostalgic nod or a proper return to the origins of the series? Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but the images speak for themselves.

A familiar claustrophobic atmosphere

The first thing that strikes you in the extracts revealed is the architecture of the place. There are spiral staircases, lounges with aged furniture, low ceilings, and subdued lighting which immediately evokes the stifling atmosphere of RE1.

The developers seem to be banking on the return to slow and psychological horror, after several more action-oriented episodes. This anxiety-inducing atmosphere is a reminder of how the Spencer mansion was a character in its own right in the original 1996 episode.

Fans on the forums are already speculating: are these places a reconstruction? A new estate inspired by the manor? Or a hallucination of a protagonist?

Capcom maintains the mystery around Requiem

If Capcom chose to reveal these images on Japanese television rather than at a global event or on YouTube, it is undoubtedly to test public reception without revealing too much. No official information yet confirms the presence of the Spencer mansion in the scenario, but the artistic direction seems to assume it.

who will be the protagonistsand even the exact genre of the game remains unclear: is it a disguised remake, a narrative stand-alone, or a major episode in the main timeline?

A return to the roots, after years of experimentation

Since the rebirth of the franchise with Resident Evil 7 and the series of remakes, Capcom has alternated between technical modernity and homages to its past. If Requiem follows the logic of its title, we can expect a contemplative, perhaps melancholic work, which revisits the fundamentals of the saga while reinterpreting them.

The hand-held camera is retained, but the pace seems slower, more oppressive, like in the heyday of survival horror. We find the very essence of Resident Evil there: the fear of turning a corner, the weight of silence, and the constant impression that something is watching you.

An unbearable wait for RE1 fans

The lack of a formal announcement around the Spencer mansion only fuels the excitement. On Japanese social networks, the reactions are clear: “Here we are, it’s finally the real Resident Evil!”, wrote a user of X (formerly Twitter).

While waiting for a full trailer, these first images are enough to build the pressure. What if Requiem was ultimately the episode that came full circle, bringing players back to where it all began?
