Red Dead Redemption returns in 4K and 60 FPS, playable for free for all, enjoy

Western fans can rejoice: Rockstar Games has just rolled out the long-awaited update for Red Dead Redemptionnow optimized for next-generation consoles. Initially released in 2010 on PS3 and Xbox 360, the game has been given a new lease of life thanks to major technical additions: 4K display, HDR support, framerate unlocked at 60 frames per second.

This return to the Far West, nine years after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2follows the legendary John Marston on his quest for redemption. The good news is that owners of the game on PS4, Switch or Xbox One can enjoy this digital upgrade for free, at no additional cost.

Modernized handling, even on Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 version also takes full advantage of these improvements. The fluidity and visual clarity are praised by players, as evidenced by their enthusiastic comments: “The Switch 2 edition of Red Dead Redemption is absolutely magnificent! Higher resolution, mouse support and a smooth 60 frames per second”

Old saves are automatically transferable, allowing you to resume the adventure where you left off. Several control configurations are available, including via Joy-Con, making the experience even more accessible to all player profiles.

Unprecedented availability on Netflix and mobile

This is one of the major surprises of this reissue: Red Dead Redemption is now playable via the Netflix app. Any subscriber can download the game on mobile and access it for free. All you need is an active Netflix account and a compatible device.

With this opening to a new audience, Rockstar is considerably broadening access to its universe. Even those without a console can now experience Marston’s epic quest in a portable format.

Undead Nightmare, the icing on the cake

As a bonus, the cult DLC Undead Nightmare is also included. This zombie mode, initially released in 2010, offers a real second alternative campaign. And fans are not mistaken: “Not to mention that Undead Nightmare feels like two games in one. The Switch 2 version is an excellent improvement: the 60 frames per second makes the game even more fluid and responsive.”

Another gamer shares his lingering crush on the original title: “I bought this original game on Switch as soon as it came out and immediately fell in love.”
