GTA 6: the PS6 could finally become its launch console

Since its official announcement, Grand Theft Auto VI crystallizes all expectations. Announced as the most ambitious project ever developed by Rockstar, the game has already gone through two major postponements. First expected in 2025, it is now planned for the end of 2026. And if the current pace is to be believed, a further slide would not be impossible.

Each trailer sparks euphoria, but also new speculation. One of the hot topics in recent weeks: the supposed presence of a PlayStation 6 in one of the presentation videos. Enough to fuel a rumor that is gaining momentum.

A PS6 hidden in the trailer? The intriguing detail

In the character Jason’s apartment, fans noticed a white console placed next to a television, with a controller strongly resembling that of the PS5… or perhaps a modified version, prototype requires. It was enough for some to see it as a nod to the PS6.

Rockstar, faithful to its tradition of easter eggs, has not confirmed anything. But this detail fuels a much more serious question: will the release of GTA 6 be pushed back to the point of coinciding with the future generation of consoles?

PS6: a schedule that could catch up with GTA 6

According to analysts’ forecasts, the PlayStation 6 should not be announced before 2027. If GTA 6 were to experience another postponement, a release on Sony’s future console would become plausible.

Rockstar could then aim for a double release: a cross-gen launch on PS5 and PS6, as was the case for GTA V at the PS3/PS4 era. But another scenario could emerge: making GTA 6 a launch game for the PS6, and thus mark a generational turning point with a technical demonstration that lives up to its ambitions.

What it would change for players

If GTA 6 were released on PS6 rather than PS5, the consequences would be numerous:

  • Graphics : the game could reach a level of visual fidelity never seen on console.
  • Features : integration of new technologies specific to the PS6 (ultra-fast SSD, more advanced AI, etc.).
  • Accessibility : a limited number of players could access it upon release, due to a lack of sufficient installed base.
  • Price : next-gen version = most likely price at 80 euros or more.

But above all, this would further delay access to the game for millions of fans. A risky strategy, unless Rockstar chooses a two-stage release, with a version optimized for PS5 initially.
