Disc date for the horror anime “Hakaba Kitaro” has been set

After we reported some time ago that polyband anime would be releasing the horror anime “Hakaba Kitaro: The Boy from the Cemetery” on Blu-ray, there are now the first details about the release.

Disc release from March 2026

The first volume is expected to be available as a limited media book edition from March 27, 2026. In addition to the first six episodes in German and Japanese, this includes, among other things, an extra booklet. A date for the second volume with episodes 7 to 11 is currently pending.

“Hakaba Kitaro: The Boy from the Cemetery” was created under the direction of director Kimitoshi Chioka (“Digimon Ghost Game”) at Studio Toei Animation. Yoshimi Narita (“Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie”) was responsible for the script.

It was first broadcast on Japanese television from January to March 2008. The original manga series by Shigeru Mizuki, which was published in 15 chapters in Japan between 1959 and 1964, is not yet available in German.

In addition to the series, polyband anime has also secured the film “The Birth of Kitaro: The Secret of GeGeGe” from the “GeGeGe no Kitaro” universe and will release it in a special edition on February 6, 2026.
