Hollow Knight: Silksong has not said its last word, a DLC is well in preparation

While Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally been available since September 2025, fans thought they had gotten the hang of this highly anticipated sequel. This was without counting the new revelations from the Team Cherry studio. In an interview with Bloomberg, the two co-founders confirm that a additional content is under development, although the release date remains completely unknown.

Without promising a new monumental adventure, the creators have evoked nuanced but solid ambitions to extend the game universe. The watchword remains the same: care, rigor and… patience.

A DLC in progress, but no calendar yet

Ari Gibson and William Pellen, the two masterminds of the Australian studio, clarified their approach in an interview with journalist Jason Schreier. “We always pursue the same development philosophy, which can sometimes lengthen our deadlines.” An elegant way to warn that this additional content will not be released tomorrow morning.

Silksong has already been through seven long years of gestation. It therefore seems logical that the possible DLC would follow the same craft trajectory. For the moment, no target date has been set. The team prefers to experiment before committing to a format or deadline.

Content inspired by previous extensions

To the question of whether this future content will be in the spirit of Lifeblood, Godmaster Or Grimm TroupeGibson and Pellen provided a response full of promise. “To be clear, yes, we’re looking at different things at different scales. That could include bigger things like Godmaster.”

This potentially means dense content, rich in bosses, secret areas and tough challenges, as fans of the franchise expect. The pantheons, central elements of the expansion Godmastercould well make their return to Silksong in a new form.

The Steel Assassin finally playable?

One of the most intriguing leads remains the appearance of the Steel Assassin. This mysterious character seen in an old trailer is not present in the current game. Team Cherry has acknowledged that it will be part of this future downloadable content.

This choice could be accompanied by a new zone or an alternative story arc. “We may need to find ways to hide access to the content, because otherwise, by the end of our expansions and development, the game risks being simply gigantic.”

“Small projects” to better test the future

Alongside the DLC, Team Cherry is also exploring lighter initiatives. William Pellen explains that the studio has not yet decided on the scope of the next content, but that work has already begun. “We just started creating new things and working on small projects.”

The studio therefore adopts a flexible posture, between long-term ambition and progressive adjustments. An artisanal method, which favors authenticity over industrial pace.
