A structural change coming for future JRPGs?
While waiting to give news of Persona 6Katsura Hashino spoke about the JRPG market as a whole at G-Star 2025, a Korean event where he was invited (with remarks relayed by 4Gamer and translated by GamesRadar).
He then gave his opinion on the evolution of the genre through the ages, qualifying the first JRPGs as “JRPG 1.0”, those considered to be the classics, before talking about “JRPGs 2.0”, which are those to which we are entitled today. Note that he does not name any particular game to be included in these boxes, but we imagine that the first category includes those released during the last millennium.
And then there are “JRPGs 3.0”. Those who are to come for Hashino, which he cannot really define, except that he thinks that they will bring another dimension to the genre, and that they “ will change their structure and presentation in depth “. He also hopes that his next JRPG will fall into this category.
From there to see clues for Persona 6maybe that’s rushing too much, but it’s interesting to note that one of the most important directors of the moment for the genre today thinks that the JRPG is ready to enter a new era. Response with the next Atlus game?
