Jackalyptic Games, the studio that worked on a Warhammer MMO, is abandoned by NetEase

Another MMO leaves without having seen the light of day

Jackalyptic Games is a name that probably won’t ring a bell, but it was a very important studio for NetEase. It was the group’s first American studio, and had for the purpose of working on the license Warhammeralready well installed. His first project was to be an MMO in this universedrawing on the knowledge of its CEO Jack Emmert, who notably worked on Star Trek Online And DC Universe Online.

But when NetEase decided to curb its overseas investments, Jackalyptic Games’ situation changed. The studio was one of the first to be in difficulty here, even if the hope of finding a buyer was still very much alive a few months ago. But last Friday, Jack Emmert announced via LinkedIn that the contract with NetEase was definitively over, leaving his team without funding :

I’m here to tell you that after nearly three and a half years of working with NetEase Games as a first-party studio, our partnership is coming to an end. We appreciate all the support that NetEase Games has provided with their resources and commitment throughout this development process. As we navigate this transition, our talented team members will explore new opportunities. If you are looking for passionate and creative professionals who bring excellence and collaboration to everything they do, please contact us. »

It goes without saying that the MMO project Warhammer probably goes up in smoke toowith the rest of the studio. A situation reminiscent of that of Fantastic Pixel Castle, which was also working on an MMO with the support of NetEase, before the latter withdrew.
