The controller versus mouse debate isn’t new, but it reaches a new height with Battlefield 6. While cross-platform play is enabled by default, PC players often find themselves facing console opponents who benefit from aim assist deemed “too effective.” And unlike the Xbox or PlayStation versions, PC players do not have the option to deactivate this feature in the options.
A frustrating situation for those who prefer the precision of the keyboard-mouse combo. In response, part of the community found a solution by digging through the game files. A homemade but effective method that is starting to get people talking.
The Hidden Trick to Disable Crossplay on PC
It all starts with a tweet from Swedish professional player Ottr. It offers manual manipulation in the game’s system files to force deactivation of cross-platform play. According to him, “Fed up with overly powerful aim assist? Here’s how to disable cross-platform play on PC: go to Documents/Battlefield 6/Settings/Steam/PROFSAVE and add GstGameplay.CrossPlayEnable 0.”
The method works, but with side effects: once activated, you will be redirected to almost empty lobbies, populated mainly by bots. Ottr nevertheless hopes that this tip will become widespread in order to create a parallel community composed solely of PC players without aim assistance.
A parade that might not last
On the developer side, no official communication yet. Battlefield Studios could well decide to block this manipulation if it becomes too popular. The studio never allowed PC players to officially disable crossplay, likely to avoid fragmenting the player base.
In the meantime, this method remains an alternative for keyboard and mouse FPS purists, determined to find a fairer gaming environment. It remains to be seen whether it will survive future updates.
