Battlefield REDSEC, the brand new Battle Royale mode in Battlefield 6, has shaken up the ecosystem of the cult shooter with a big surprise. Far from being satisfied with a simple competitive confrontation alone or in a squad, this free mode adds mechanics and vehicles completely absent from the main game, starting with… boats.
Launched with Season 1 of Battlefield 6, REDSEC is a standalone game that does not even require owning Battlefield 6. It offers not only a classic Battle Royale mode, but also a PvP mode called Gauntlet, with no life limit, designed for fans of intense competition. But it is above all the presence of new vehicles that is talking about it.
The boats are (finally) arriving in Battlefield… but not where we expected
Since the beta, fans have been demanding the presence of boats in Battlefield 6. Problem: no map in the base game includes a usable body of water, despite several clues in the game files. REDSEC changes the situation. In this mode, players can now take control of RHIBs, these motorized inflatable boats armed with a machine gun.
These aren’t actual warships yet, but as the ComicBook editor points out: “I wouldn’t go so far as to call it naval warfare, but it’s a good start.”
These new vehicles are added to an already impressive array: helicopters, buggies, tanks… so many machines absent from the current maps of the main game, but very present in REDSEC. At this stage, only the developers know if these technical innovations will soon be integrated into Battlefield 6.
Armor, classes and freedom: REDSEC rethinks gameplay
Another significant new feature: the introduction of an armor system inspired by Warzone. Players can now equip armor plates to better resist enemy fire. This dynamic system interacts with classes: the assault class, for example, will be able to use this equipment more advantageously than the others.
The whole REDSEC experience seems designed for a more nervous approach, but also more flexible. The fights are fast, demanding, and every move counts. At sea and on land.
Towards a naval future for Battlefield 6?
If REDSEC allows you to navigate, the main multiplayer of Battlefield 6 still remains confined to dry land. None of the new Season 1 maps currently include an aquatic environment or naval units. The wait could last a few more months. Everything suggests that the boats will finally be introduced in a future major update, probably sometime in 2026.
In the meantime, REDSEC acts as a full-scale testing ground. For players and developers alike, this is an opportunity to test new ideas without compromising the balance of the base game. And judging by the enthusiastic reception from fans, it could well be that this free Battle Royale redraws the contours of what Battlefield can – and should – offer.
