A test to see if the West has an appetite for it (obviously yes)
Nintendo has finally understood that there is a market to be seized in the West regarding vinyls, and it will therefore start by releasing the soundtrack of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild via a box set… or rather two. The Japanese manufacturer teams up with Laced Records to produce a first 2LP box set containing 34 trackswhich should already offer a notable best-of of the game’s soundtrack.
But for those who want a little more, another much more massive 8LP box set with over 130 tracks will also be on the program. A first image of this box set has been published, and should make any fan want to get it. But you won’t have to pay the price. Across the Atlantic, this box set will be sold for $194.99, compared to the $49.99 requested for the 2LP box set.
Nintendo intends here to see what the public’s reaction to this release will be, to know if it should release more vinyls in the West in the future. This is what Bill Trinen, vice president of Nintendo’s user experience department, told Variety:
“ In Japan, the CD remains a very popular format, and video game soundtracks have very often been sold on CD for years. In the US, we’ve barely released any physical soundtracks. This initiative therefore aims in part to assess the demand for this type of media in the United States. It also reflects our desire to make video game music accessible to a wider audience, and is part of a more global strategy. »
The soundtrack of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released on June 19, 2026.
